740 Elementary Students Paint Rocks For Art Project With Unforgettable Message.

An elementary school art teacher came up with an incredibly creative outlet for students to express their individuality last school year, and it’s now inspiring educators around the country to work on similar projects of their own.

“Only One You†by author Linda Kranz tells the story of Adri, a young fish whose parents dole out some important life lessons before he heads out into the wide blue ocean to make a life of his own: Keep your eyes peeled for potential new friends, they advise, but don’t be afraid to forge your own path.

“There’s only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place.â€

Taking that advice to heart, students at Sharon Elementary School in Newburgh, Indiana, embarked on a school-wide project that kills two birds with one stone, so to speak. Unveiled in May, the project not only beautifies the school but also illustrated the lesson that each student is unique in his or her own way.

The school’s roughly 740 students painted their rocks using acrylic paints, each stamped with his or her own artistic flair.

Once completed, the rocks were collected and placed in a meandering pathway that’s shaped like a stream and winds along two buildings outside the school’s front doors.

From a distance, they almost look like hundreds of professionally dyed Easter eggs!

How cool is that every time these kids walk into school, they’re reminded that they are each special and a part of a beautiful picture.
