Artist Sends Perfect Gift To Nonverbal Teen After His Artwork Inspires A New Word.

mom reads letter to teen with autism

Due to complications, Odin Frost had less than a 2 percent chance of survival when he was born. He grew up to defy those odds every day, even graduating from high school with his best friend by his side. While he is nonverbal and autistic, he has one word in his vocabulary thanks to an art installation he saw in a museum near his hometown of Tyler, Texas.

The exhibit featured artwork by New York City-based artist J. C. Fontanive. The piece that fascinated Odin most was a small box featuring butterflies that flutter like a flip-book. The model delighted Odin so much that he laughed with joy, shouting “butterfly” for the first time, much to the surprise of his family.

Odin’s parents shared a video of his priceless reaction on Instagram, and the artist clearly loved seeing it just as much as we did! He reached out to them to get Odin’s address and sent him a special package.

“We were assuming it would maybe be an art print is a card, but to our surprise he sent us the same exact art installation!!!” Odin’s family revealed. “We were shocked and moved to tears.”

To say Odin was overwhelmed with joy and excitement is an understatement! Thank you to this kind artist for recognizing what a meaningful impact your work left on this young man.
