TikTok user OBX has some incredible time-lapse imagery on their page from the Outer Banks. They display the multitude of stars seen over the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean with the lights cascading across the horizon.

The vibrant colors light up the entire sky as they undulate against a starlit sky. Bright greens, oranges, reds, and yellows blend to form a visual extravaganza unmatched by anything manmade. There is no way to replicate the mesmerizing display of energy.

The northern lights are a rare sight produced by solar activity. This year’s increase in solar activity has allowed more people to view them. The lights are extremely rare in the southern states, so people are seeing them in person for the first time. Experts recommend getting to an area with less light pollution during one of these displays. The Outer Banks, where these time-lapse reels are from, is an excellent location that allows the vibrancy of the lights to shine bright.

The Aurora Borealis is the scientific name for the northern lights. The words, from the Greek, mean sunrise (Aurora) and wind (Boreas). Greek mythology stories state that Aurora was the sister of Helios (Sun) and Seline (Moon). When she “raced” across the morning sky, they envisioned her riding in a vibrant multi-colored chariot to meet her sisters at the dawn of each day.

Please share this mesmerizing display of light.
