NFL Player Steps In To Help Stranger Get Home After Airline Mixup.

Sometimes you just need a little help, even if it comes from a complete stranger.

Delilah Cassidy is a law student at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona. She’s also a budding journalist who specializes in sports. Delilah had been traveling in Europe for several weeks, so she was exhausted when she finally touched down for a connecting flight with American Airlines.

As Delilah started to board her flight, she was stopped by the gate agent and told that she’d have to pay for her oversized carry on bag. The fee was just $50, but the problem was that Delilah’s credit card company kept rejecting her purchases because she hadn’t yet notified them that she was back in the United States.

The airline refused to accept cash, and Delilah became increasingly upset when she realized she wasn’t going to catch her flight back home. She plead with the gate agent, but was repeatedly denied access to the plane.

That’s when an angel in the form of a burly NFL player appeared. A tall man whom Delilah did not recognize appeared at her side and asked how much she owed. “I got it,” he said, handing the agent his card. They swiped his card, and a very grateful Delilah finally got on the plane.

As she made her way down the plane’s aisle, Delilah tried to offer the man cash for what he’d paid, but he refused. He simply told her to pay it forward the next chance she got.

Later, Delilah shared the life-affirming moment on Twitter, describing how wonderful it is to find that there are still kind hearted and generous people out there who are quick to help out a stranger in need. “I’m crying as I write this and as I board the flight. This man was an angel,” she tweeted.

Later, apparently when she looked closely at the selfie she’d taken in the airport, Delilah realized who exactly had helped her that evening.

It was Arizona Cardinals tight end Jermaine Gresham.

Everyone on Twitter was quick to find the joy in Delilah’s story, stating that Jermaine is known for being a stand-up guy both on the field, and off.

Well done, Jermaine! We always love hearing about humble superstars who aren’t afraid to step up and give back to their fans. We’re sure Delilah is kicking herself for not recognizing him sooner, but better late than never!
