NFL Player Hands Out Turkeys For The Community, Despite Being Cut From The Team That Day.

Shaq Leonard carries a turkey over to a car that's parked next to him. Someone with a camera captures the moment.

If there’s one thing that athletes are taught, it’s the importance of getting back up each time you get knocked down. This week, Shaquille Leonard’s actions prove that he understands this well. After a tough season with the Indianapolis Colts, during which he had two back surgeries, he received some tough news. Yesterday, he was told that had been waived.

In other words, Leonard is being let go by the Indianapolis Colts and, during this time, the other 31 NFL teams are able to claim both him and the remainder of his contract. Needless to say, this isn’t the kind of news you want to get the week of Thanksgiving.

Shaq Leonard smiles as he leans down and poses for a selfie with a person in a parked car.

“It’s shocking,” Leonard said. “I asked for a November meeting. I guess I got a November meeting. I guess you’ve got to be careful what you ask for.”

Still, on the same day that he received this devastating news, Leonard didn’t stay down. Instead, he showed up with teammates to distribute 200 Thanksgiving turkeys and sides at a church in Indianapolis.

“I’m all about giving back,” Leonard said. “Through tough times, good times, no matter what it is.”
