Bored Artist Uses Paint To Transform Her Home Into Fairy-Tale Cottage.

Artists across the world have found themselves with more time to be creative because of COVID-19.

Nathalie Lété of Paris, France, has been self-isolating at her summer home, a cottage about an hour away from the big city. When she first purchased the space, she made sure all the interior walls were painted white — creating a perfect canvas for her future masterpieces!

The artist specializes in using mixed mediums to produce whimsical paintings. Her work is influenced by her love of travel and folk art and has been featured in children’s books, wallpaper, glass, toys, and more.

Before the pandemic began, she started slowly painting different areas of her home. But then she found herself with plenty of time on her hands, and her vision came alive!

“After I painted my staircase, I realized just how much I enjoy going up and down the house all the time,” she said. “Seeing all the colorful motifs all day brings me a lot of happiness! Every step inside shows dreamy, candy-color flowers blooming on the doors, walls, staircases, and furniture — as though it’s a cottage from a fairy tale.”

Nathalie doesn’t have a master plan for the work because she doesn’t need one! She just paints whatever gives her joy.

“I do the work step by step, corner after corner, wall after wall. By doing so, I have the time to learn from my mistakes and avoid them later on the project,” she said. “Even if I did something that I no longer like, there are no plans to rush, no stress. I can cover it the next day by simply painting over.”

Impressively enough, she’s not just focusing on the walls.

“[I want] to not only do the walls, but also paint all the furniture, lamps, tiles, rugs, cushions, and other fabrics,” she said. Her ultimate goal? “To create a nest that’s totally filled with my art.”

Best of all, Nathalie is letting her “inner child” guide her creative process. She’s also encouraging other artists to “forget perfectionism.” After all, “The most important thing is to allow yourself to feel pleasure from doing it.”

What a magical way to spend her time! We’re inspired to try this out for ourselves… although we’ll be keeping plenty of white paint ready.
