Naqeeb was an interpreter for five years in the U.S. Military in Afghanistan. His job is one of utmost importance and extremely dangerous. He in and his family were in peril because the Taliban had seen his face and knew that he was on the American side.

He began receiving death threats from the Taliban and so for two years the only way to stay safe meant never leaving his home.”I ended up just like a prisoner in my own house,” Naqeeb says. But something unexpected brought a small light to his life.
While searching through his Facebook, Naqeeb found a little clip of Ellen it made him smile for the first time in years.
He began watching more and more of her videos on YouTube and finally and finally found relief and joy in the midst of his life in hiding.
When he finally made it to the U.S., it was the “best night’s sleep [he’d] gotten in almost three years.” But things where about to get even better. Naqeeb was able to say “Thank you” to Ellen in person as he was invited on The Ellen Show to tell his story!
