featured

The winter months can be tough for seniors. In addition to the heightened dangers of slip-and-fall accidents, it can be hard for them to clear their sidewalks and driveways after an intense snowfall. Thankfully, there are those kind souls who are willing to step up and lend a hand.

Chicago native Jahmal Cole is such person. However, even he was blown away after his call for a few volunteers was met with incredible responses.

It started when Jahmal, who runs the non-profit community groupĀ “My Block, My Hood, My City,” sent out this tweet:

And what started out as one man wanting to do something good for the elderly in his community transformed into 100 people showing up to help.Ā They helped shovel the yards of 50 families, mostly belonging to senior citizens.

It was especially touching to see such a diverse response from people all over Chicago and beyond. As Jahmal’s tweet went viral, Americans from across the country began to reach out with donations for My Block, My Hood, My City.
