No One Showed Up To 7-Yr-Old’s Birthday, So Cosplaying Superheroes Arrange Epic Do-Over.

On Max’s seventh birthday, he was excited for the party he’d planned at an area trampoline park.

The Houston, Texas child had wanted a “friends-only” party, and his parents had helped him make all of the arrangements. He invited 30 kids. His mom Susann was disappointed that more families hadn’t sent back the RSVP to let them know if they’d attend. The family decided to forge ahead with the party anyway. When his birthday arrived, only one other kid showed up to celebrate Max’s big day. The poor little fellow was absolutely crushed.

Without telling her son, Susann called into local radio station 94.5 FM The Buzz to impart the importance of sending back RSVPs to events like these. If more of Max’s friends had sent their regrets, they would have been able to break things to Max gently before they ended up sitting in an empty party room at the trampoline park!

Brandi Coatsworth just happened to hear that radio segment, and she instantly knew she needed to reach out to Susann and help Max have the birthday party any 7-year-old would love to have.

Brandi, who moonlights as Wonder Woman, works with an organization called Houston Cosplay for Charity. The group uses superhero costumes to bring joy to people of all ages.

“Anyone who knows Max and his story was just heartbroken for him,” Susann explained. “He’s such a great, kind kid that it’s hard to hear something like that happened. When [the radio show] forwarded Brandi’s email, I was floored. I had no idea something like that would or could happen.”

Susann arranged for a second party, this time with 100% more superheroes. The look on Max’s face when he walked into the party room and realized what was going on is priceless!

All of Max’s favorite heroes were on hand to wish him a happy birthday, including Wonder Woman, Batman, and Captain America. Each cosplayer gave Max a big hug and then stuck around for cake and presents. Susann said you couldn’t wipe the smile from Max’s face if you tried!

“The fact that Brandi and Houston Cosplay for Charity jumped in the same day my email was read on the air made my heart smile,” Susann said. They showed up “without a second thought and have done more than anyone could ask to make sure Max had the best birthday ever. I will never be able to thank them enough.”

Brandi says that just seeing children smile is a good enough reason for the charity’s kindness.

It only takes a moment to make a difference in someone’s life. Seeing the pure joy on his face is why we do what we do, and it really warmed our hearts to see such a sweet child so happy. The short amount of time you take to do something special can have a huge impact on that person’s life.
