The big heart of one little boy is inspiring his community and the world to think of others first, even when you’re facing hard times yourself. He is also proving that you should never underestimate the imagination and will of a kid who wants to change the world and make a difference. Six-year-old Matthew McDonnell is showing others what it means to sacrifice and love others with a pure heart.
Little Matthew has been in an uphill battle with pediatric cancer. But in the midst of his own storm, he decided to be selfless and found a way to help other kids going through the same pain. How did he do it? With a warm cup of hot cocoa.
Last December, the kind-hearted kid hosted a two-hour community event in his hometown of South Abington Township near Scranton, Pennsylvania where he helped raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a nonprofit that supports pediatric cancer research.
Matthew’s Miraculous Hot Cocoa had a long line for the entire event and he was able to raise an astounding $6,500!
“I care more about the other kids more than me,” Matthew said. The little boy’s heart continues to shine and he is already thinking of more ways to raise money for other kids.
“Matthew occasionally gets discouraged,” his mother admitted. “He truly takes everything in stride. He completely trusts that God will heal him at just the right time!”
He even has aspirations to be a doctor, “I’m gonna heal people and I’m gonna pray for them every day and I’m gonna heal them with my love.”
