When Ryan Reynolds asks for help, people tend to listen.
The superstar actor grew up in Canada and recently recruited his 16.2 million followers on Twitter to help him find an irreplaceable teddy bear that was stolen from a fellow Vancouver resident named Mara Soriano in late July.
Mara had been moving to a new apartment in the city when she set a bag full of valuables down to check on a friend. The bag contained an iPad Pro loaded with family videos and memories, an Apple Pencil, and a Nintendo Switch.
Most importantly, however, were two mementos from Mara’s mother, who passed away from cancer in 2019. The first was a Mickey Mouse wallet, and the second was a Build-A-Bear equipped with a recording of her mom saying, “I love you.”
“PLEASE, I don’t care about the electronics, I just want my bear back (and maybe my citizenship card cause I can’t do anything without it),” Mara wrote online.
Once Reynolds spotted her moving post about “Mamabear” and added an offer of a cash reward, the search really took off. Eventually, security footage was released that showed a man taking Mara’s bag and walking away.
At long last, two strangers showed up at CBC studios to return the priceless stuffed animal! They explained that they heard about the missing bear and knew who had taken it, so they took it back from the thief and returned it to its rightful owner.
The Internet rejoiced! Mara’s update has nearly a million comments, and people everywhere are over the moon about the return of Mamabear!
While we don’t know if the men who returned the bear accepted Reynold’s reward, the actor thanked the thief for “keeping it safe.”
It’s so beautiful to see complete strangers coming together to reunite a daughter with a token of her mom’s enduring love! This is one happy ending even Hollywood couldn’t top!
