He Desperately Missed Wartime Sweetheart, 70 Yrs Later Their Reunion Brought Me To Tears!

Norwood Thomas was a 21-year-old airman stationed in London when he first met Joyce Durrant. The year was 1944, just months before the US stormed the beach at Normandy, but the short time Norwood spent with his “pretty little thing” was more than enough to fall madly in love.

“All I can say is it was long enough for me to become smitten,” said the now 93-year-old veteran to CBS of his time with Durrant. “For me to decide that this is a girl that I want to marry and want to live with.”

Norwood soon left for the shores of France. After wars end, the smitten airmen was not able to return to London to take his bride, so he resorted to letters trying to convince her to come to the US and start a family. Durrant refused Norwood’s affections, and he eventually married a “good woman who helped get this head on straight.”

After her death in 2001, Norwood again decided to search for his long lost love. He found her living in Austrailia and decided to reach out. We find them in the video below, 70 years after falling in love, seeing each other over skype for the first time since the war.
