Sibling rivalry is nothing new, but using it to bring joy and unity to a family is.
Ahmad Fauzan bin Azmi of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is competing against his sister to pull off the most amazing homecoming surprise for their mom, and it might just be our new favorite thing.
The tradition started in 2015 when Ahmad was studying in the U.K. He changed his travel plans to arrive a week early for his sister’s Nikah (a traditional wedding preparation ceremony) and didn’t let his mom in on the secret.
She was so delighted by having her children together under one roof that his sister Sarah decided to adopt the practice!
A few years later, she found the perfect opportunity. She was studying in Alaska, and since traveling to and from Malaysia takes about a week, she hadn’t seen her family in over a year. With the time difference, their communication was limited, and they all missed each other.
So for her mom’s birthday, Sarah traveled 6,000 miles over six days so she could show up at the restaurant where her family had gathered to celebrate — without giving her sweet mom a word of warning!
In a video someone recorded of the moment, we see Sarah pretending to be a flower delivery person by hiding behind a bouquet. The moment she reveals her face, her mother stops. After doing an adorable double-take, she stares at Sarah in awe for several seconds before breaking down in tears of joy.
Their relatives can be heard giggling in the background as she cries into her hands. Sarah clearly isn’t quite sure how to comfort her overwhelmed mother, but this was definitely the excited reaction she was hoping for!
We’re pretty sure Sarah won this round of the world’s cutest sibling rivalry! Of course, there’s no real competition here because this family obviously has enough love to go around. Still, we can’t wait to see what they try next!
Watch Sarah’s incredible surprise in the video below, and don’t forget to share.
