Supermom Works Tirelessly To Care For 54 Children In Rural Nepal.

Maggie Doyne is the definition of a supermom.

Thirteen years ago, the New Jersey native opened her heart and home to orphaned children in Nepal. Today, she’s doing everything she can to support her 54 kids and their community through the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In 2007, Maggie cofounded the BlinkNow Foundation. Their mission is “to provide an education and a loving, caring home for orphaned, impoverished, and at-risk children.”

The nonprofit built the Kopila Valley Children’s Home in Surkhet on land Maggie purchased with babysitting money. While she was just 19 at the time, she quickly proved that she’s capable of making a real difference for others in need.

She was named CNN’s Hero of the Year in 2015, and now her organization runs a school, women’s center, and safe house for girls.

The 33-year-old lives in BlinkNow’s children’s home with her husband Jeremy, her daughter Ruby, and 53 other children – all of whom she considers to be her own.

Caring for such a large family has been especially challenging since the beginning of COVID-19. While they grow their own produce, they’ve run out of staples like bread, butter, and eggs.

Even so, Maggie and her team have been putting food kits together for their neighbors. Each one contains rice, lentils and beans, cooking oil, salt, and soap.

“We are procuring as much food as we can find, scouring everywhere to get food into the hands of widowed women and single mothers and children,” she told CNN. “We’ve mobilized our health and wellness team to make sure vulnerable families are safe and protected. We’re just doing everything we can to keep this community safe.”

Thanks to generous donations from the public, they’ve been able to support both Kopila Valley’s children and the many families struggling to get by without work.

“It’s scary, but I’m also really hopeful to see that we can do something and share what we have and mobilize,” Maggie said. “I’ve just been so touched by all the generosity and mobilization to get food into the hands of people who need it the most.”

Maggie was born to care for others. After all, she’s become a mother to her entire community! While times are tough, she serves as a powerful reminder that even in the poorest places, people can and will take care of each other. You can get involved by donating here.
