Remember when people used to meet and fall in love in person? Yeah, me either.

Okay, so I’m being dramatic, but when you hear this story, you won’t even care that this adorable romance began online (kind of). Back in July 2015, Madison O’Neill found herself dateless for an upcoming wedding. She’d recently broken up with her ex but had RSVP’d to the nuptials with a plus-one. Naturally, she turned to Twitter as a last-ditch attempt to find a fun person to accompany her.

“So [hit me up] if you wanna be my date to a wedding tomorrow,” she wrote in her post. She probably wasn’t expecting much, since the post didn’t go viral and she only got one comment.

But just a few hours later, she got a text message from a guy she had gone to high school with.

Charlie Dohrmann and Madison didn’t know each other. “He thought I was cute in high school but never had the courage to talk to me, but he saw that tweet as an opportunity and thought, hey why not,” she later said.

Madison wrote on Twitter that Charlie “was a grade older and I always thought he was obnoxious…” so he had that going for him.

It would appear Madison played a little hard to get, keeping Charlie on his toes by waiting an hour or two to respond each time. She was also a bit wary about going to a wedding with a guy she didn’t know, but ultimately she said yes. “I figured that having one awkward date wouldn’t be the end of the world, and I might as well go for it.”

Of course, the quasi-strangers had a lovely time and began dating immediately. It wasn’t long before their romance truly took flight.

Despite the trials that come with a long-distance relationship, Madison and Charlie made it work. Frequent visits and keeping in touch over text helped.

And after about two and a half years of dating, Charlie popped the question in person.

And as if we weren’t all thinking it, Madison wrote in a tweet recently about her unique love story, “crazy how things work out.”

Naturally, the Twitter-sphere had a lot to say about their meet-cute.
