Boy With Down Syndrome Melts Hearts As Gerber’s Newest “Spokesbaby.”

2018 is off to a great start for the Warren family of Dalton, Georgia!

In January, a relative of Cortney Warren’s told her about a contest run by the Gerber baby food corporation. The company was seeking entries for this year’s famous “Gerber Baby,” the face of the brand. This contest has been held every year for the past ninety years. On a whim, Cortney decided to submit a photo of her one-year-old son, Lucas, who has Down syndrome, but she never expected to hear back from the company.

Instead of hearing nothing, Cortney soon received the most exciting news imaginable.

Lucas became the first Gerber baby in history who has Down syndrome! His sweet photograph was selected out of 140,000 other photo entries, and he’s now winning the hearts of everyone who sets eyes on that big, winning smile. His mom Cortney says she hopes that Lucas winning the contest will bring more awareness to Down syndrome babies.

Cortney also wants to celebrate her son’s funny, energetic personality. She says he’s a little firecracker who loves music and socializing!

Gerber CEO and president Bill Partyka stated, “Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby. This year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”

Cortney says that Lucas has always been an exceedingly happy baby with a terrific smile and a laugh that makes everybody around him happy.

“He may have Down syndrome, but he’s always Lucas first,” she said. “He’s got an awesome personality and he goes through the milestones of every child… we’re hoping when he grows up and looks back on this, he’ll be proud of himself and not ashamed of his disability.”

You can definitely see that Lucas is a happy little guy! His personality jumps right out of every picture he’s in, making him the perfect Spokesbaby for a brand that hopes to be inclusive of all children.

“We’re hoping this will impact everyone,” dad Jason said. “That it will shed a little bit of light on the special needs community and help more individuals with special needs be accepted and not limited. They have the potential to change the world, just like everybody else.”

Aside from bragging rights and appearances on national television shows, Lucas will be awarded $50,000. His parents intend to put that money away for Lucas’ education.

Congratulations to Lucas and his family, and please share this story to spread the love!
