Lottery Winner Splits $22M Jackpot With Friend To Keep 28-Yr-Old Promise.

When Joe Feeney answered a call from his longtime friend, Tom Cook, last month, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Tom’s revelation had to be a joke.

“He called me, and I said, ‘are you jerking my bobber?'” said Joe, a fan of fishing.

But the spectacular, life-changing news wasn’t a prank. Tom had finally gotten the chance to fulfill a promise they’d both made nearly 30 years ago. And he wasn’t about to pass it up!

Like millions of others, Tom and Joe have always dreamed of winning the lottery. So, in 1992, they both agreed that if one of them ever beat the odds, they’d each take half of the money. The pair have purchased tickets for Wisconsin’s Powerball every week since, and 28 years later, Tom hit the jackpot!

In June, Tom bought the golden ticket at Synergy Coop in Menomonie, winning $22 million! After recovering from the shock, he picked up the phone and dialed Joe’s number. The friends opted to receive $16.7 million in cash. After taxes, they’ll each get close to $5.7 million. And Tom never once considered keeping it to himself.

“A handshake’s a handshake,” Tom said.

Understandably, the pair and their wives couldn’t stop smiling when they picked up their check. At that point, Joe was already retired. Tom followed suit after receiving the amazing news. He can’t wait to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren!

“I can’t think of a better way to retire,” he added.

Talk about a good friend! What Tom did is beyond generous, but we’re sure if the roles were reversed, Joe would do the same. Enjoy your retirement, you two! And enjoy every moment of your wonderful friendship.
