Life has thrown many hurdles at Lennyn Lyons — and she’s overcome each one!
Not only does the 17-month-old from Holiday, Florida, meet each challenge with a smile, but she also has a resolve that inspires her parents, Brianna and Seth, every day. Her determination has carried her further than doctors thought possible. In fact, she just celebrated a milestone her family wasn’t sure they’d ever see!
From the moment Lennyn came into the world, she’s faced an uphill battle. She was born 10 weeks early and was quickly diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the brain. As if that wasn’t enough, her parents found out she had cerebral palsy last August.
While Lennyn has since endured four brain surgeries, her doctors weren’t sure she’d ever be able to speak or walk. Of course, that didn’t stop her from trying — and succeeding! First, she pulled herself across the floor to her big sister.
Then she built leg strength through occupational and physical therapy. It simply hasn’t occurred to her that there’s anything she can’t do. She sees what she wants and goes after it, and her wonderful family cheers her on.
She’s right to never doubt herself! On Valentine’s Day, she defied the odds by taking her first steps!
In a video of the incredible moment, we see Lennyn casually pull herself up and put one foot in front of the other, grinning at her huge accomplishment. Even stumbling isn’t enough to keep her down!
“She wasn’t supposed to walk, and if she did it would be with equipment,” Brianna wrote. Later, the thrilled mom added, “Don’t let anyone tell you what your kid can and can’t do. They’re gonna tell you what they can do.”
No matter what Lennyn faces in the future, we know she’ll conquer each challenge. All she has to do is believe in herself, and she clearly has that down. You go, girl!
Watch Lennyn walk on her own for the first time in the video below, and share this beautiful moment with your friends.
