It took Air Force veterans Kiersten Downs and Thomas Martineau three tries before they were finally able to get married. The first time they planned a wedding, they had to cancel for logistical reasons. The second time, Thomas fell seriously ill just a week prior to the wedding. But the third time’s a charm, and the pair finally got their dream wedding!

Since they’d gone through so much leading up to the wedding, everything had to be perfect… so Thomas planned a special surprise for their first dance.
Somewhere between the ceremony and reception, Kiersten lost track of her groom. Her wedding planner told Kiersten that Thomas was in the bathroom and would meet her on the dance floor. So, when Kiersten heard their names being announced, she danced out onto the dance floor by herself.
Then, Kiersten saw something she’ll never forget: her groom standing on the dance floor.

This moment meant so much to the bride because Thomas has used a wheelchair since 2008, when he was paralyzed from the chest down in a motorcycle accident.
Prior to the wedding, Thomas had secretly planned to suspend himself from the rafters of their reception venue so that he could dance with his bride upright.

Kiersten was totally surprised.
