What do you get when you combine the Backstreet Boys, Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and a bunch of instruments you’d only find in an elementary school classroom? A whole lot of laughs!
Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough joined The Tonight Show crew for a playful remix of their hit song from 1999, “I Want It That Way”.
But instead of the traditional instruments, this goofy ragtag band takes the Fisher Price route, playing the tambourine, ukulele, kazoo, and other childlike instruments!
At first glance, just based on their all-white outfits, you’d think they’re cafeteria workers taking a break before the first wave of kids roll in for lunch. But all you have to do is flash back about 20 years ago, and it’s suddenly clear: They’re not in a school cafeteria, they’re just doing a kind of parody of the original video, which featured these teeny bopper heartthrobs dressed in similar attire:
“I want to create new memories. We’ve been singing the same songs for almost 25 years,” Brian said in an interview back in April. “It’s not that we’re not excited to sing our old hits, but we want to grow, too. We don’t want to be stuck in what was. We want to continue to grow with our fans.”
The cover was a hit with viewers who were reminiscing on the good ole boy band days of the 90s.
Watch the fun with this new (child approved) version of “I Want It That Way” in the video below, and share to spread more laughs!
