COVID-19 may have turned everyone’s lives upside down, but it hasn’t stopped two boys from doing what they love most: helping others in need.

At just 12 and 7 years old, Jahkil Jackson and Cavanaugh Bell spend their free time serving others. Both run their own nonprofits, and both are making a big difference for people affected by the pandemic!
When he was 8 years old, Jahkil began putting together “blessing bags” for homeless people with Project I Am, the organization he started in Chicago, Illinois. Today, he’s also making them for local seniors!
These care packages contain essentials like wipes, socks, deodorant, hand sanitizer, granola bars, toothpaste, and bottled water.
“I’m doing my part and helping. And I feel like it’s everyone’s duty to help out where they can,” Jahkil told CNN. “Everybody in the world, they’re scared, they’re worried. So we have to work together to uplift each other.”
Meanwhile, Cavanaugh is taking care of his elders in Gaithersburg, Maryland. When he started helping his mom get groceries for his 74-year-old grandma, who lives in a senior living facility, he realized others like her might be struggling to get what they need.
Using $600 from his savings, he purchased essential items and distributed them through his anti-bullying organization, Cool & Dope. Then he opened a community pantry where families can pick up what they need.
What’s more, Cavanaugh has raised more than $14,000 on GoFundMe so he can make an even bigger difference!
Now, he and Jahkil are teaming up from a distance. They’re exchanging care packages so they can reach even more people in their communities.
“Anyone can have an impact, no matter their age, no matter if they’re older or they’re young, because whatever you believe, you can achieve,” Cavanaugh said. “With love we can get through this together.”
