Celebrate International Self-Care Day By Adopting These 10 Simple Habits.

One of the best ways we can keep ourselves happy and healthy is by practicing self-care.

Life is hectic and stressful, but no matter how busy our schedules become, it’s important to make time to nurture our well-being. July 24 is International Self-Care Day, so to celebrate, we’re sharing 10 simple ways you can start being kinder to yourself today!

1. Eat healthy foods.

A well-balanced diet does wonders for your physical and mental health, from boosting energy to lowering your risk for disease!

2. Exercise often.

Working out, whether you’re walking, doing yoga, or hitting the gym, is a perfect way to start each day. Not only is it good for your body, but it also improves your mood, cuts stress, and strengthens your heart!

3. Get a good night’s rest.

Sleep is just as important as the first two tips! Getting between seven and nine hours every night helps us recharge and feel ready to take on the new day.

4. Let yourself feel negative emotions.

We all have bad days, so if you’re feeling sad or angry, acknowledge those experiences instead of trying to push them away. This can help you overcome feelings of guilt, get to the source of the issue, and work through it.

5. Keep a gratitude journal.

Write down what you’re grateful for and include all the good things that happen to you each day. It will change the way you think by helping you focus on the positive!

6. Meditate.

Regular yoga or meditation sessions are great ways to keep calm and get rid of stress and anxiety.

7. Confide in friends and family.

Nobody gets through life alone – we all need support! Having someone who is ready to listen to your frustrations, fears, and triumphs can make all the difference in your week.

8. Stay away from alcohol and drugs.

If you’re going through a hard time, these substances will only make you feel worse! There are plenty of other activities that will help you feel better, including going for a bike ride, chatting with friends, or enjoying your favorite show.

9. Make time for the things you love.

If you want to be happy, do the things that make you happy! Even if you only have a limited amount of free time, make sure to enjoy at least one of your favorite activities each day. Listen to a podcast, play with your pets, have a dance party – the specifics don’t matter as long as you’re having fun!

10. Don’t be afraid to say no.

Overwhelmed with everything you have to do? It’s OK to turn down plans or pass on that social distancing party. You need to take care of yourself before you can take care of other people.

Make each of these a habit, and soon you’ll find it easier and easier to handle all of life’s stresses. Which will you try first?
