Online communities can be incredibly welcoming and supportive places.
One day in February 2018, Elizabeth Bollinger had an idea to help out a friend and coworker who was struggling, so she turned to the community members of her online “home” of Imgur to ask for their assistance.
Elizabeth explained that her friend Hailee was born with cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Although her disability makes it difficult to work at the checkout line at Publix Supermarket, Hailee always has a smile on her face and a “can do” attitude.
“OMG Y’ALL ARE THE BEST PEOPLE EVER!!!!! I went to bed around 2am, woke up round 9;30… go to check…. and the gofundme page is already past $5K!!!!! I dunno what else to say except y’all’re awesome and the best community ever! THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO UPVOTED AND DONATED AND ARE HELPING THIS AWESOME WOMAN TO GET A NEW CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Being a part of a community, both online and off, means taking care of each other. Share if you agree!
