Homeless Man Approaches Young Couple Stranded In Cold, His Unexpected Offer Leaves Them Stunned.

We have shared some heartwarming stories about people caring for the homeless, like this good Samaritan who gave shoes to a barefoot homeless woman on a train or this taco shop owner who created a coat stand for homeless people during the cold of winter. But it isn’t often that you hear stories the other way around, of people receiving gifts from homeless people! But that’s exactly what happened to 22-year-old Charlotte Ellis and her boyfriend Taylor Waldon.

Charlotte and Taylor had been enjoying a night out in Covent Garden, London when they realize they’d lost track of time and missed their last train home.

The pair stood outside the train station– which wouldn’t open for another 4 hours– in the freezing January weather, debating what to do next. That’s when Charlotte heard a voice.

“You can borrow my coat and duvet if you want?” said the voice. “It’s a long wait and it’s freezing tonight.”

That’s when Charlotte turned to see Joey, a homeless man offering her a blanket. She thanked Joey and took him up on his offer, huddling under the duvet.

Taylor suggested taking a taxi back to Charlotte’s parents’ house, but Charlotte knew she couldn’t leave Joey on the street.

“No one deserves to be out in these conditions,” said Charlotte, recalling that moment. “I’m not saying that you should trust everyone you meet on the street corner, but who exactly should you trust?”

So Charlotte told Joey she wasn’t going anywhere without him. At first, he thought she was kidding, but she insisted. “It took Taylor to explain, ‘if you don’t come with us I’m not going to get her home’ and Joey finally accepted.”

Charlotte said she thought her parents might be upset about her bringing a stranger to their home, but “as soon as she met him she understood why we had done what we had done. I knew she would understand.” Charlotte’s family offered Joey a place to sleep, a hot shower, a shave, and a good meal.

Charlotte recalled how she and Joey “talked for hours, exchanged life stories and instantly became the best of friends.”

Since then, Taylor and Charlotte have spent more time with Joey, taking him out to dinner, getting him a hair cut, playing football with him… even getting a phone and new wardrobe for him!

“We have faith in him, we help him. But more importantly we give him our time and friendship.”

Thanks to the support and encouragement of his new friends, Joey was even able to land a job just five days after meeting Charlotte and Taylor! “All he needed was someone to have faith in him and to help be that stepping stone to make a difference to someone’s life,” said Charlotte. “Joey is the most amazing, caring and incredible human that we have ever met, and I’m so blessed to of been a part of getting him off the streets.

Charlotte says the night she met Joey changed her life.

“Just because someone is homeless it doesn’t make them any less of a person than me or you and it doesn’t mean that all homeless people are drug or alcohol abusers, not all homeless people should be instantly tarnished as bad people. They are just like me and you.”
