Anyone who meets Neal Shytles will instantly recognize his grateful spirit. But this Thanksgiving, that spirit will shine brighter than ever before thanks to one amazing act of kindness.

Shytles has been living in a homeless shelter in Norfolk, VA for the past year and a half. He told WTKR News that, despite being surrounded by hundreds of other homeless men and women at the shelter, he’s very lonely:

“I’m lonely 365 days a year but Christmas and Thanksgiving are two of the worst days, and I really miss having some kind of family atmosphere around me.”

Out of desperation, Shytles reached out to WTKR and asked if they would post a wanted ad on their Facebook page asking for a family to take him in this Thanksgiving. He told WTKR, “It would mean the world to me if somebody took me in. Just for that one day, for a couple hours.”

To Shytles surprise, the people of Norfolk responded immediately! Within hours numerous families reached back to Shytles offering to adopt him into their families for the day. The first couple to reach out, Cory and Ashley LeMore, are the lucky ones who will share their home with Shytles this Thanksgiving. They will pick him up Thursday morning and take him to their home for lunch and dinner.

Shytles reaction to the LeMore’s generosity shows us all just how powerful it is be a part of a family: “I love both you and your husband even though I haven’t met you. Thank you so much. It means a lot to me.”
