Cop Blesses Struggling Mom At Dunkin Donuts With Simple Gift.

“Do good recklessly,” wrote a young mother from Maine. “Be kind with abandon.”

Gwenivere Rollins was having a rough week when a stranger did something kind for her that reminded her of just how good people could be to one another with just a little effort. It all started when she and her 18-month-old daughter, Farris, decided to swing through the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru in Pittsfield, Maine.

It was early in the morning and Gwenivere was taking Farris for the second of three doctors appointments that week. The little girl had been sick with croup, an ear infection, and a full-body rash, so needless to say both mother and daughter were feeling stressed out as they waited for their coffee and donuts. But when Gwenivere got to the window, she found that her $4 order had already been paid for by the Maine state trooper who’d been in line ahead of them.

Gwenivere broke down in tears, overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness that she hadn’t even known she needed in that moment. “Your $4 act of kindness meant the entire world to me, I cried all the way to Waterville,” Gwenivere later wrote on Facebook. “We’ve had a hard few days and that small act of kindness meant the world to me. Thank you for the coffee, thank you for your service to your community and thank you for keeping us safe. Also, Farris says thank you for the donut.”

Gwenivere said she called the Maine State Police to let them know how thankful she was, and even though the trooper who paid for her coffee wishes to remain anonymous they will still include this incident in his quarterly review. The young mom then updated her Facebook post to add this important reminder for us all:

You NEVER know what someone is carrying, so always always be kind to the stranger standing next to you. The Trooper had no idea who I was from Adam. Yet made such a small act of kindness that to me, felt like a gift from God himself because it’s been a hard few weeks.

You never know what someone is losing in their season of life, so spread kindness as fast as this post has spread. Do good recklessly. Be kind with abandon. The person behind you at the grocery store could be having the worst day of their life, and you would just never know.

Such wise words! Gwenivere is so right. It’s not just about being on the receiving end of a random act of kindness, it’s also about putting that goodness out into the world yourself. You just never know when a simple act like this state trooper’s could change someone’s life for the better.
