Grandpa Nearly Falls Over When He Sees Grandson’s Epic Birthday Surprise.

Cam Dedman’s grandfather got him interested in classic cars when he was just a young boy, and that means they’ve spent a lot of time together, including drag racing and traveling to other car-related events.

“Papa,”Cam says, is his “best friend.”So from one best friend to another, he wanted to give Fred Lamar an extra-special gift for his 81st birthday… one that was a true testament to the strong bond they’ve developed over their shared passion.

That gift came in the form of a 1957 Chevy Bel Air that Fred had purchased in the 1950s when he was just 28 years old. He loved the car so much that he couldn’t bring himself to part with it, even when it had disintegrated into just a shell of its former glory.

But that shell was more than enough for his incredibly talented and determined grandson to work with.

Bit by bit, over months and months, Cam painstakingly restored both the exterior and interior:

That restoration included adding a vintage air-conditioning system and a custom steering wheel to match the wheels. As if that wasn’t enough, he also redid all the wiring.

“This was so hard to complete let alone do it with out him knowing,”he posted on Facebook, along with more than two dozen stunning photos showing off his work.

“I saved up for years to do this even sold my personal car to help fund parts for the car. It all is worth it though for my Grandpa!â€

On the day of the unveiling, Fred and Cam stood with far-flung family who’d flown in to see this incredibly lucky grandpa’s reaction. Standing in the parking lot with a blindfold on, he knew he was in for a big surprise – but nothing like this!

He nearly fell over when he saw the car.
