It’s been a rough few years for Sadie Dixon, a 13-year-old from Spring Hill, Florida.
Sadie has been fighting Ewings sarcoma, a type of cancer that affects the body’s bones and soft tissue. During her battle, she turned to her love of cooking for solace. She and her mother watched endless Gordon Ramsay’s cooking shows, and she became one of the chef’s biggest fans.
When Sadie was asked by Florida-based charity Children’s Team Fund if there’s anything that would make her dream come true, the teen didn’t hesitate with her response: She wanted to meet Gordon Ramsay in the flesh!
CTF got to work making a meet-and-greet happen, but it wasn’t easy. Gordon’s schedule conflicted with Sadie’s treatment schedule, and plans fell through more than once. Her family decided to keep future attempts secret from her so she wouldn’t be let down again.
At long last, they found a time and place where everyone could be at once. Gordon agreed to meet Sadie and her family at his Hell’s Kitchen restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sadie’s family told her she was visiting a race track to throw her off the scent, but as soon as she stepped into her hotel room she found an exciting surprise!
The framed portrait of Gordon read, “Your dream is… coming true! Sadie, you are finally meeting Gordon Ramsay at Hell’s Kitchen on Saturday!!”
Sadie immediately burst into happy tears when she read the sign. That weekend, she finally got to meet her cooking icon. Although he’s known for his prickly temperament, the father-of-five was kind and attentive to the teenager. He gave her a hug and thanked her for coming multiple times. He even gave her a white chef’s jacket of her very own!
Sadie and Gordon spent some time chatting before taking selfies, making a TikTok video, and FaceTiming two of Gordon’s adult daughters. He invited her to have lunch with him and his family if she ever comes to London, and Sadie’s mom hopes to make that happen in the future.
“You could tell that his personality and Sadie’s personality, they’re like two peas in a pod,” Misty Dutton said about her daughter and Gordon. “Once they met, that solidified it. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, these two are just nutheads.’ We were just sitting there watching, that was their thing and he made it about her. She even did a little interview on her TikTok with him. He made her feel at ease.”
How perfect that the stars finally aligned to give this teen an experience she’ll never forget! Something tells us Gordon won’t soon forget this inspiring young lady, either.
