It’s a conundrum faced by many a pet owner: Their dogs want desperately to play, bouncing up and down on all four paws with a ball or Frisbee in their mouths, or dropping a Frisbee in Mom/Dad’s lap over and over again, until their humans finally give in and head outside with said toy.

They throw it once, the dog goes to retrieve it then trots back– but refuses, absolutely refuses, to let go. It makes no sense. Do they want to play fetch, tug-o-war or keep away?!
After a game like this with my dog, I always find myself with hands covered in abrasions and tiny puncture wounds from prying the balls, Frisbees, and sticks out of her giant German Shepherd jaws. Still, I can’t say no.

Similarly, the Golden Retriever in the video below is dying to play. But he has a rather unconventional toy of choice: a baby pacifier.
The owner of this sassy Golden can whine, wheedle and cajole all he wants… But he’s not getting that dog’s pacifier. Nope.
Throughout the 3:38 clip, the Golden issues mock growls and warnings, alternately turning his head and swatting away his owner’s hands even as his mighty tail sails playfully through the air.
