Teacher’s Plan For Teaching MS Word Without A Computer Is Blowing Minds Everywhere.

When it comes to education, some teachers manage to do so much, with so little. This fact is particularly true in developing countries, where funding for educational opportunities is often scarce.

In the Republic of Ghana on Africa’s west coast, one teacher has gone viral due to his innovative workaround for his school’s lack of resources, and his unparalleled level of dedication to his students is truly heartwarming.

Owura Kwadwo teaches Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in a rural farming community in Ghana. The fact that students in this tiny village have the chance to learn ICT at all is noteworthy, but the truly incredible part of this story is that Owura teaches his students how to compute… without a computer.

“Every teacher has a way of presenting his subject to his students. This is my way,”he said.

Owura uses an old-fashioned chalkboard to draw detailed “screenshots” of Microsoft Word. He’s teaching his students what to do when they sit down to create a written document, which is a truly invaluable skill in today’s modern era.

“I do it to make my students understand what I‘m teaching,” Owura explained. “At least to give a picture of what they will see assuming they were behind a computer.â€

Owura’s students have picked it up quickly and seem to enjoy his method. “I do make sure they understand everything well before they leave the class,” he said.

The photo of Owura’s classroom lesson has gone viral around the globe, and now people around the world are contacting Owura to offer donations!  Now, his students will be able to learn first-hand on donated laptops and projectors. He hopes that the attention he’s generated will expand the opportunities for not just his school, but others in his area that face the same issues with lack of funding.

“There are many schools facing this same problem,”Owura said. “I can also help out and give some of the donations to them, so they can also benefit through teaching ICT.â€

This is a man who is devoted to spreading education as far as he can! And now, because of this teacher and the compassion of complete strangers, his students will finally have the resources they need.
