Firefighters Let Scared Girl Paint Their Nails To Distract Her From Car Crash.

Car accidents are scary enough for adults. But for small children, split-second collisions prove absolutely terrifying.

Two-year-old Braelyn Fernelius of Clearfield, Utah, couldn’t wait to get to her grandma’s house so the two could enjoy some girl time and paint their nails. She made sure to bring along several bottles of nail polish for the occasion. Then, chaos erupted as another driver rear-ended the family van, hitting them three times.

“Braelyn’s screaming, crying,” her mom, Jocelyn told FOX 13. Her husband, Brandyn, hadn’t been with them. “I’m freaking out, because I’m pregnant and because she’s in the car.”

Fortunately, firefighters and paramedics responded quickly, and nobody was seriously injured. But the toddler was inconsolable. She was still screaming when Battalion Chief Allen Hadley and Capt. Kevin Lloyd of North Davis Fire District arrived. They noticed the bottles of polish in her hands and came up with an idea. To distract Braelyn, they asked about the polish – then offered to let her paint their nails!

The little girl had never used polish by herself before, but she immediately agreed, coating the men’s nails (and skin) in purple, pink, and a touch of orange. And just like that, she was calm, even giggling! Jocelyn could finally relax knowing her daughter’s fear had abated.

“Within minutes, the child was calmly painting their nails and had forgotten about the accident she had just experienced,” the department wrote in a Facebook post detailing the firefighters’ kind act. “Great job Chief Hadley and Captain Lloyd for providing awesome customer service to one of our young citizens.”

And Braelyn’s parents couldn’t be more grateful to the men for turning a frightening experience into a fun memory for their daughter. Painting nails is all Braelyn can talk about now – not the accident.

“It meant a lot,” Jocelyn said. “It just made me feel good, and they care.”
