A Capella Boy Band Puts Unique Spin On Bruno Mars Hit.

Watch out Pentatonix! There’s another a capella group that’s stealing our hearts, thanks to their sweet harmonies. It makes sense that they call themselves the Filharmonics.

Of course, the name is likely also inspired by their Filipino heritage. The group members tend to think of themselves as an “acapella boyband.” They also are heavily influenced by music from the 1990s.

“We began as a group of guys singing together,” said one member, “and eventually it turned into a brotherhood.” They also shared that their common culture and love of music also helps bring them together.

As first-generation Filipino-American singers, they hoped winning The Sing Off would make their parents proud.

Once on the show, the group chose to audition with their take on the Bruno Mars song “Treasure.”

They impressed immediately with their combination of harmonies and beatboxing.

By the end, they had won over the crowd and made huge fans of the judges. As they told later told Asian Journal,

“We’ve been working on that song for a long time, singing it in the practice room over and over again. But finally hearing people applaud and go crazy on the first time we performed it [was] truly gratifying.”

They had no way of knowing, but that “Treasure” performance was the beginning of their rise to national fame — and you can check it out below.
