Cops Rescues Neighborhood From “Dementor Attack” In Hilarious Viral Post.

Fans of the “Harry Potter” franchise know: you don’t mess with Dementors.

In the books about the famous boy wizard, Dementors are the soul-sucking, completely evil guards of Azkaban, the terrifying prison where wizards are sent for breaking the rules. Harry and his friends soon learn that Dementors are beyond scary, and only a strong Patronus charm can thwart the cruel creatures.

Even a modern day police force is no match against a Dementor… but that didn’t stop a concerned citizen from Essexville, Michigan from calling the local P.D. when she thought she spotted one in a tree near her house.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a much more benign situation than the caller might have thought.

“Earlier this morning, the Public Safety Department received a call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing a Dementor in Smith Park. This is particularly concerning since everyone knows muggles can’t see dementors and because our only officer able to perform the Patronus charm is off duty.

Further investigation revealed it to be merely trash.

The Ministry of Magic assures us that all dementors are accounted for at Azkaban.

Please help us keep the City beautiful and help trash find its home.”

Whoops! It was just a garbage bag, folks. Nothing to see here! We can totally see how the caller made this mistake, though. Do you see it?

Close enough (if you squint).

The Essexville Public Safety Department seems to be having some fun with this call, and after sharing the picture to Facebook, it quickly went viral online. It’s now been liked and shared thousands of times by Harry Potter fans and critics alike.

Later, the safety department updated the account to let everyone know that they were definitely in on the joke.

And the commenters were totally loving it!
