Rescuers Assume Missing Toddler Is Dead. 11 Days Later, They Discover A Dog Protecting Her

The Taiga boreal forest is the world’s largest land biome. The sprawling forest spans the northerly circumference of the earth and is home to 29% of it’s trees. It’s sheer scale is like nothing else on the planet. It was in this forest that a 4-year-old girl named Karina became lost and stranded for 11 days with her faithful dog Kyrachaan.

When Karina and Kyachaan wandered into the woods and the early arctic night began to fall, her family feared the worst. They rallied the entire town and set out with hundreds of search and rescue volunteers the next day, but to no avail. For the next week the entire town tried to find little Karina, but they began to fear that Karina and her pup had fallen.

For 11 grueling days, Karina and Kyachaan wandered the woods in search of food and water. Karina was able to find a meager supply of berries and fresh water for the two of them to eat… but it just wasn’t enough. Throughout their ordeal, faithful Kyachaan fended off bears and wolves that dominate the Taiga and kept Karina warm though the long nights.

One day out of the blue, Kyachaan came trotting into town and tried to lead the rescuers back to Karina. In a tall bed of grass about 4 miles from the village, rescuers found Karina. She was very weak and scared, but was miraculously uninjured.

Karina and Kyachaan instantly became famous around the world for their story of survival. There is now a statue commemorating the duo’s ordeal in the center of town… and we’re not surprised.
