The Doo Wop Shop got its improbable start 25 years ago, when two strangers struck up a conversation and discovered a shared love of singing. More and more people joined this fledgling group, until they were bona fide entertainment stars in and around the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

The Doo Wop Shop has made a tradition of blending musical excellence with their signature goofy demeanor, which results in a sound that’s founded in a mutual passion for singing, hard work, and most importantly: having fun!

But outside of Amherst, the group’s best known for its 2010 “Disney Melody,” which has more than 11 million views and counting, even all these years later. Which is to be expected when a group of talented singers mashes together a montage of songs from some of our favorite Disney classics, from “Circle of Life” (Lion King) and “I Can Go the Distance” (Hercules) to “I Wanna Be Like You” (Jungle Book) and “Strangers Like Me” (Tarzan).

There’s everything to like about their performance in the video below, but their audience literally screams in surprise and delight when these goofballs line up like a bunch of can can dancers, kicking their legs high and proud as Alec Hutson takes on the lead vocals of “Prince Ali” (Aladdin). Honestly, are these guy having more fun singing or performing?

They’re equally talented in both arenas, and we’re so glad this iteration of the group is still carrying the torch a quarter century after the original Doo Wop Shop came together.
