Georgia Mom Gets Shock Of Her Life, Delivers Family’s 1st Boy In 50 Yrs.

It’s been 50 years since a member Dara Crouch’s family last bore a son on her mother’s side, but in an epic turn of events all of that has changed.

“I just knew I was having a girl,”the 29-year-old from Columbus, Georgia, told TODAY. After all, no one on her mother’s side of the family had given birth to a son in half a century, and Dara already has a daughter. The odds of of Dara having a son seemed slim to none.

Dara is a labor and delivery nurse and knows full well what to expect the moment a baby arrives into the world… but nothing could have prepared her for her own big moment.

After four hours in labor, photographer and family friend Neely Ker-Fox was there to capture Dara’s reaction when she realized she had the first son in family in over 50 years.

Ker-Fox was able to capture a beautiful, genuine surprise on Dara’s face that words cannot describe. Check out her perspective from a recent interview below.

“I immediately knew it was an amazing shot the moment I took it. But birth, the moments leading up to it and just after, go so quickly. Things are very fluid.

“It wasn’t until a few minutes later that as the room quieted down, that I was able to show everyone in the room the back of the camera to see the shot.”

“Admittedly I knew it was amazing, but given the emotional delicacies of birth I wasn’t sure she would be ok with me sharing that moment publicly.”

“That’s the hard thing about birth photography. You capture these epic moments, but if a client wants to keep them private, we honor that.”

“I have many moments like this that will never see the light of day. Although, NONE as amazing as this one, so I’m quite grateful for Dara allowing the world to see this moment.”

“I love shooting births when the gender is unknown. Every mother is filled with anticipation to meet their baby no matter what, but the parents that don’t know and wait until the of the moment of birth, there’s really nothing else like it.”

Though Dara was convinced she’d be having a girl, her husband had a gut feeling that was realized in the most beautiful, unexpected way. The moment the doctor shouted, ‘It’s a boy!!!’ the entire room, Ker-Fox included, erupted in tears of joy.

If this post proves anything, a picture is worth a thousand words… and the things we hope for like love, joy, and goodness are all very much alive in the world today.   Sometimes the good is just harder to find.

In the midst of uncertainty, the Crouch family received a gift far above what they could have hoped or imagined.
