Family Of Mariachi Players Was Facing Eviction Until Community Stepped Up To Help.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought countless struggles for families all over the world. One industry that was hit especially hard was live music. Because of this, the nine-person Cielito Lindo Family Folk Music group found themselves eight months behind on rent.

Juan and Susy Luceros and their seven children love playing mariachi music throughout Chicago, Illinois. After several months of scraping by with hardly any work, they ran out of options and were left facing eviction. Luckily, one of their friends heard the news and rallied their community to ensure the beloved family wouldn’t lose their home!

Due to novel coronavirus lockdowns and social distancing requirements, the Luceros took a 40 percent hit to their income. Despite being so far behind on their bills, they were able to stay in their home through January 2021 because of a moratorium on evictions. Unfortunately, at the end of the month, they had to either leave their home or pay $18,000 in rent.

When Robert Farster, a family friend, found out what was going on, he didn’t think twice before setting up a GoFundMe to raise money for them.

“After generously spreading joy and lifting people up through their music for years now, the family — which has been likened to the von Trapps — is left needing help,” Robert wrote.

“Part of the family’s identity has always been giving back to the community. I’m asking, on their behalf, for the community to give what they can to this family,” he added.

Then he set a lofty goal of raising $50,000.

Before long, the Luceros’ story was making its way across social media like wildfire. Within three days, they had surpassed the $50,000 goal, and now they’ve received over $64,000. Thanks to their loving community, the sweet family was able to pay back their rent and still have enough leftover to navigate the months to come!

Not only did they get some much-needed financial support, but they also began receiving requests for paid virtual performances. The endless kindness means the world to this family of gifted musicians.

“Thank you for helping us during this crazy time in history!” Juan wrote on Facebook. “We hope you are all healthy and well during these trying times. We feel the LOVE from you and plan to share a Thank You performance with you all soon!”

What a powerful way to show kindness to a family in need! It’s amazing to see how much can be accomplished when everyone pitches in to help their neighbors.
