College Student Desperately Missing Family Dog, Gets Hilarious Surprise From Mom.

Moving out of your childhood home to a new city and starting your first year of college, is a daunting idea for any teenager. But a creative mom and a loving dog made the transition a little bit easier for 19-year-old Jake Ostrowski from Houston, Texas.

Jake was getting ready to move to Lubbock, Texas to start his freshman year at Texas Tech, packing up all of the dorm-room essentials, when his mom, Sharla, surprised him with a hilarious gift: a cardboard cutout of the family dog, a Golden Retriever named Jesse.

Jake tweeted about the clever present, and the image quickly went viral. Jake’s tweet was retweeted over 5,000 times in less than a week and prompted some great responses from friends and strangers alike:

For Jake, the cutout is not only funny, it provides some comfort. “I love my dog– he sleeps with me every night,” Jake told BuzzFeed news, “It can be kind of scary going off to college. But now I’ve got my dog in my dorm with me.”

Here they are in one of Jake’s profile pictures. They clearly have a sweet bond!

But what does Jesse have to say about going viral? Jake tweeted that Jesse is “loving the fame!”

It looks like Jake is loving it, too!

Good luck with your freshman year, Jake! And way to go, Sharla, for thinking of this clever gift for your son!
