Chris Sebastian is a gifted singer who sometimes struggles with the feeling that he’s living in his brother’s shadow. While Chris made it to the top 16 in the first season of “The Voice,” his older brother, Guy Sebastian, won “Australian Idol” in 2003. Thankfully, music has never come between them, and now Guy is one of Chris’ biggest fans!
Guy is one of the coaches on this season of “The Voice Australia,” so you can imagine his surprise and delight when he heard a familiar voice in the middle of blind auditions.
A knowing smile spread across his face as he listened to the contestant’s beautiful take on Labrinth’s “Jealous.” Though he couldn’t see the singer, he knew exactly what was going on – and turned his chair around within seconds!
He wasn’t the only one impressed by Chris’ talent! Judges Boy George, Delta Goodrem, and Kelly Rowland all joined him less than a minute into the performance.
As Chris poured his heart and soul into the song, he captivated every single listener. Little did many of them know, he was among the “All-Stars,” the musicians who have previously competed on the show and returned to show off how much they’ve learned.
The moving performance won Chris a standing ovation, and then the brothers revealed their wonderful secret! Of course, Guy wasn’t the only judge who was blown away!
“You just never really expect that to come out of you ’cause you look like a builder and then you sing like a bird,” Boy George told him. “It’s just beautiful.”
While Chris ultimately chose Rowland to be his coach for the rest of the competition, Guy couldn’t have been happier to see his brother shine!
“I’m so proud of you, bro,” he choked out, wiping away tears.
No matter what happens this season, Chris knows his brother will always be rooting for him. If you ask us, that’s even better than winning!
