Cop Drives Birthday Girl To School After Car Crash, Returns Later With Touching Gift.

As a kid, one of the best parts of a birthday is bringing in a special treat to school. For one day, your whole class gets to take a break to enjoy some delicious desserts in your honor – plus everyone sings to you!

8-year-old Journey Huey was so excited for her birthday celebration at Sugar Bush Elementary School that she stayed up past her bedtime to help her grandma make the perfect cupcakes for her classmates. Unfortunately, the sweet treats never made it to school.

Journey and her grandmother, Hali, were in a roll-over car accident on their way to school on Journey’s birthday. Hali isn’t sure what happened, telling a local news station, “We were going down the highway and taking Jojo to school with her cupcakes for her birthday, and the next thing you know, we weren’t going down the road, we were going across the road… Then we just flipped over!”

Deputy Sue Bolwerk arrived at the scene to find Journey and Hali safe and unharmed. The same cannot be said for the perfect cupcakes.

Deputy Bolwerk is a mother of three and knows all too well the importance of birthday treats. She saw the disappointment in sweet Journey’s face after the accident and knew she needed to do something to make the sweet girl’s day a little better.

Deputy Bolwerk told a local news station, “I thought, you know, she needs cupcakes on her birthday, so I ran down to FestivaI (Foods), don’t know, I think I grabbed about 30 of them — I wanted to make sure they had enough, and then brought them to the classroom.”

Now, not only did Journey get the typical birthday celebration attention, but she also got to feel extra special thanks to a visit from the heroic (and generous) deputy!

The kind gesture brought Hali to tears and completely surprised the birthday girl. Even better, Journey says she learned something important on her birthday this year: “we can’t replace people, but we can replace things.” Pretty wise for an 8-year old!
