But in this difficult time, love is a much-needed beacon of hope and joy. That’s why Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell decided to tie the knot in the place where they’re happiest: their home, the Australia Zoo.

After spending close to a year planning their big day, the two of them were disappointed by the change of plans. But rather than lament what they’d lost, they decided to celebrate with a private ceremony mere hours before Australia went on lockdown on March 25. While there were no guests, they were able to share their special moment with Terri and Robert, Bindi’s mother and brother.
“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now,” Bindi said. “Today we celebrated life and reveled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens.”
Robert walked his sister down the aisle, where the happy couple lit a candle to honor Bindi’s late father Steve. Just the day before, Bindi shared a sweet photo of her dad on Instagram, writing, “Thank you for being my guiding light. You’re always with me.”

People around the world are expressing their joy for this unique moment that brought the Irwin family even closer.
“We shared tears and smiles and love,” Bindi added. “Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this – stay safe, social distance, and remember LOVE WINS!”
