Body-Shamed Mom Cries In Car, Now Her Powerful Plea Is Going Viral.

In Charli Stevens’ own words, she’s not “typically one to post too personal of things to Facebook.” But something awful happened during a trip to her local Kroger, and it caused Charlie to speak out.

” I went to my local Kroger real quick this morning to buy some gift tags because I’m gonna wrap some presents today. While there, I notice this woman, who was probably in her 50’s, kept staring at me.”

Charli did her best to ignore the staring, as it made her uncomfortable. Not able to take the hint, the woman then walked over to Charli and said something incredibly rude.

“I think your clothes are a little too small on you.â€

This woman could have said, “Hello!” or, “Have a nice day!” or any other remotely polite and sensible form of greeting. Instead, she took that moment to body shame a perfect stranger with a hurtful and unnecessary remark.

For the record, this is Charli:

Charli was stunned by this person’s cruel words. Unable to think of a reply, she began to cry. Her five-year-old son was with her, unable to help or understand what was happening. Meanwhile, the rude woman insisted that she “wasn’t trying to be mean,” and walked away — without as much as an apology.

Humiliated, Charli left the store without buying anything and sat in her car and cried.

“It’s no secret that I’ve gained weight throughout life. I’ve birthed two kids so it’s bound to happen. Do I realize I’m overweight? Yes. Do I want to be smaller? Yes. But am I okay with the way I look? Yes!! Why would a complete stranger go out of their way to insult someone?”

Charli ended her story with a simple request: “Please, PLEASE, have some respect for people.”

“You never know what someone is going through or if your one little comment, snicker, stare, whatever will be enough to break someone down or push them over the edge.”

Charli’s body-shaming incident has since gone viral. We can only hope as the story circulates, more people think carefully about what they say to others. Always ask: “How would I feel if someone said that to me?”
