Young Singer Has Judges Smitten From 1st Note of “Let Her Go” Cover.

Amalia Foy has always known what she wanted to do professionally, but she had to wait a while before she could really get started. Until 2016, to be specific. That’s when she turned 14 years old, the minimum age requirement for contestants on X Factor Australia.

Amalia has been playing piano since she was just four years old and singing since she was nine. Still, she wasn’t the most confident contestant.

With only some school musicals under her belt, Amalia said she was “definitely not expecting much”from the audition. So when she saw how the judges reacted, no one was more surprised than herself.

She was successful beyond her wildest dreams!

For her audition piece, the Melbourne, Victoria, resident sang a slow rendition of “Let Her Go,”by English singer-songwriter Passenger. Originally released in 2012, it later became an international smash hit and has been featured in numerous commercials and TV shows.

But those, of course, are all recordings of the original song. Amalia’s version, well, you just have to hear it to believe it. Not only that she put such a unique spin on the original, but that she’s just 14 years old.

The judges were so blown away with her performance, they didn’t really seem to know what to do with themselves at first. Then they rose as one, giving her a standing ovation, and Adam Lambert took her under his wing, serving as her mentor as she moved forward during the season.

Amalia went on to place fourth in the competition. “Everything is set up from this point,” she said of the incredible opportunity. “Ultimately, I’m achieving my dream. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
