Sometimes life surprises us in the best way possible.
Alphonso Nichols recently returned to his hometown after trying to make it big in Hollywood. While the singer experienced a few encouraging moments in Los Angeles, his career ultimately didn’t pan out – or so he thought.

Back home in Washington, Alphonso took a job as a waiter at Olive Garden. Not long after, he discovered an outlet for his creative passion. For every customer’s birthday, it’s customary for the staff to come out of the kitchen to celebrate. So when Alphonso’s coworkers found out he could sing, they appointed him as the go-to “Happy Birthday” performer.
They couldn’t have chosen someone better if they’d tried! “The managers and everyone tell me the whole restaurant stops and goes silent and then starts clapping when I finish,” Alphonso said. “It’s gotten to the point where I’m doing maybe 20 birthdays a night.”
One evening, he sang for Amy Haddox’s daughters. Amy immediately recognized she was hearing something special, so she recorded a short video of him and posted it on Facebook. Much to their surprise, the clip went viral!

Ever since, Alphonso has been flooded with opportunities to pursue his music career. “It’s been super shocking,” he said. “Each day someone new is reaching out.”
The unexpected turn of events inspired the talented musician so much that he’s planning to release an album of his own next year. For now, he’ll continue working at Olive Garden, where he’s become a local celebrity. In fact, according to his boss, many customers are stopping by just to see him!
But the person Alphonso wants to impress most is his son. “One thing I’m big on is never giving up on your dreams,” he said. “I want to show my son that.” We’re pretty sure that won’t be a problem!

The universe has a funny way of keeping us on our toes. Just when it seemed like things might not work out, Alphonso found another path to his artistic dreams! We can’t wait to see what he’ll do next.
