4th Grader Sings “Imagine” At Talent Show & Moves Everyone To Tears.

Some viral videos make us laugh, others make us tear up a little bit. And some make us “ugly-cry” in less than 10 seconds.

The video below falls squarely into the “ugly-cry” category – but in the best way possible. When Michelle Kornowski of Minneapolis, Minnesota, shared a video of her son, Adam, performing in his school’s talent show, she likely had no earthly clue that it would resonate with so many people.

Millions of people have viewed Michelle’s Facebook video to date, and it’s still gaining momentum.

Adam is a 4th grader at Lakeside Elementary in Chisago City, Minnesota. He’s also a budding musician who has been playing the piano since he was five.

For the school’s talent show, Adam played the piano and sang “Imagine” by John Lennon, and the result is incredibly moving. Not only does he play the song flawlessly, but he manages to hit the high notes with ease, all while adding his own personal flair to the famous song.

Perhaps it’s Adam’s song choice itself that makes the video so intensely emotional, or maybe it’s his sweet, almost-angelic voice that elevates the moment to the point that you simply can’t listen without strong feelings bubbling up to the surface. Whatever the reason, this video is special, plain and simple.

There’s just something about a sweet child’s voice uttering these hopeful lyrics:

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

When Michelle shared the video, she noted that “there wasn’t a parent in the room with a dry eye by the end.” She said, “He got a standing ovation and the applause lasted forever!! A woman stopped me to tell me that she would buy it on iTunes if I put it out there!!”

We’d buy it too, Michelle!

And yet, Adam seems beyond humble when he finishes his performance. As the room erupts in applause, he just stands up and gives a courteous little bow before walking off stage. He has no clue that he left us all in a blubbering heap, searching for our tissues!

Watch Adam’s sweet and earnest cover of “Imagine” below, and be sure to share to spread this feeling far and wide.
