There’s a new “challenge” on the meme circuit and it’s absolutely adorable.
Forget about those old internet challenges like planking, dumping ice water over your head, and eating Tide pods (yuck!), the latest meme is so wholesome it will have you picking up the phone to call your grandparents in a hurry. It started in China, and it’s called “Four Generations.”
As the name implies, this challenge showcases families with four living members from each generation. It starts with the youngest in the family stepping through a doorway, then turning and calling their mom or dad to join them. Next comes the second generation, followed by the third, and then the great-grandparents bring up the rear.

It’s absolutely adorable to see the elder generations as they emerge from the doorway. More often than not they’re grinning from ear to ear at being included in the fun, and it’s wonderful to see them looking so healthy considering their age.
You can see a distinct family resemblance for each group, and it’s impossible to watch one of the four generation videos without smiling at how happy they are to be together.
The meme struck a nerve with people online, many of whom began sharing photos and videos of their own four generations of family members.
We love to see families celebrated in this way, and it’s refreshing to find a meme that’s so pure! These people are all so lucky to have so many surviving family members. We hope this is the start of a long lasting internet trend.
