These 200 Horses Were Homeless. Now They Live On A 1,120 Acre Sanctuary Thanks To One Woman’s Dream.

The Duchess Sanctuary is a 1,120 acre sanctuary just outside of Oakland, Oregon. It’s an absolutely beautiful place, and it might be home to the happiest horses on earth.

The oasis, founded in 2008, is operated by the Fund for Animals in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States and its main purpose is to make a new, safe home for formerly abused, abandoned, neglected, and homeless horses. There are about 200 horses residing there, saved from slaughter in a horse-Heaven on Earth!

This sanctuary has pledged a committed to providing only the highest levels of equine care and the loving kindness that these horses deserve, and it’s all thanks to Jennifer Kunz. Jennifer describes the horse haven as the “culmination of a dream” she had when she was a little girl of “being surrounded by horses and being able to help them.” She describes living in the sanctuary with the horses as being “the most magical experience that you can even imagine.”

“Every horse here has a name and a personality.” explains Jennifer as she introduces them to the camera. Clearly, these horses receive plenty of individualized attention from Jennifer. And from Jennifer’s dog, Sydney!

Watch below to see the 200 rescue horses roam free in the sanctuary.  The video gave me butterflies!
