16-Yr-Old College Student Inspires Mom, Now They Take Every Class Together.

When it comes to pursuing our dreams, age doesn’t matter.

Just ask Emma and Kathy Earhart of Denton, Texas. The mother and daughter have taken very different paths throughout their lives. But today they’re working toward the same goal: earning a bachelor’s degree.

Kathy has always known her daughter was destined for greatness. After all, Emma is just 16 years old and holds a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. And she’s already a junior in college! She took the SAT at 12, earning a score so impressive she was able to skip high school altogether. In other words, she’s on track to earn her doctorate by the time she’s 22.

Kathy, on the other hand, put school on hold to raise her family. And after being a stay-at-home mom for 14 years, she wasn’t sure her dream of becoming a doctor was still possible. But watching Emma changed her mind.

“I thought my ship had already sailed,” Kathy said. “But when I saw her doing so well, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to go for it.'”

So the mom of three decided to join her daughter at the University of North Texas! The transition was certainly made easier by the fact that she and Emma are both majoring in biology. That means they don’t just go to the same school — they actually have every class together!

Emma said she wasn’t sold on the idea at first. But now she loves having her mom as a classmate. They study together and push each other to do their best. They even have some of the same friends! And they both share a dream of becoming a doctor. Emma hopes to be a surgeon, while Kathy is working to be a dermatologist.

“This has been an amazing experience, especially experiencing it with my mother,” Emma said. “It’s just created a bond that’s going to last a lifetime.”

With each other’s support every step of the way, it won’t be long before both women can go by Dr. Earhart. Keep up the great work, ladies!
