Brand New Teacher Raps & Dances To Welcome 4th Grade Students, His Viral Music Video Will Make Your Day.

Among my friends and family members are several elementary school teachers. Every fall, I help them brainstorm as they try and think of creative ways to welcome students to the new year. That first day really sets the tone, so it’s important that students feel welcome and enthused right from the start!

One teacher, Dwayne Reed, came up with the perfect idea to welcome his fourth graders to the new year: a rap and music video. Mr. Reed is a new teacher– this 4th grade class will be his first class ever– so he wasn’t just setting the tone for the year, he was setting it for his career! So he teamed up with Stevo Thompson and Ty Gothom to create this awesome video.

Ty Gothom uploaded the video to YouTube with the following caption: “Instead of sending out the boring, old, ‘Welcome Back’ newsletter, Mr. Reed, a first year teacher from Chicago, wrote a rap song for his 4th grade students, and recorded a music video to go along with it! The song and video emphasize the reality that hard work is a must, but that school and learning can certainly be fun!”

It’s super clever and goofy! He tells the students about himself, goes over some of the subjects they will study together, and even encourages them to go to college someday!
