Allison and Josh were in college when they first met. It was only a few years later that they were married and ready to have children. “We’ll have two, maybe three,” they thought. But boy, were they wrong.
By 2013 they had four biological children and one adopted son. Then, in October 30th, 2015 (Allison’s birthday), she received a call from a friend, asking if they would consider adopting a pregnant woman’s baby whom she could not take care of.
They accepted.
On the day the pregnant woman went into labor, the entire family packed up the car and headed to Duke hospital. But on the way, she received another phone call… apparently this pregnancy would result with two babies. What wonderful news!
The family was elated and of course wanted to keep both twins. But then came a third call. But this one wasn’t filled with good news. One of the babies had been born with only a brain stem and might not make it through the night. The story from there is absolutely heart-wrenching, beautiful and inspiring.
